We almost died, but I'm coming back from the almost-grave to tell you everything that's happened on my Mom's holiday.
First of all, we went to Florence! It was absolutely beautiful, and the food. Holy Ned Stark's bastard, it was amazing. So much pasta, so much pizza. I was in heaven. I just love foodies so much.
One of the things I loved about Florence was how easy it was to get everywhere. Mom and Liv are HUGE babies when it comes to walking, and in Florence, it didn't matter. I really only saw the touristy areas, but it was SO pretty! It was exactly like you'd picture Italy to be. So of course, my mom ate it up. When we called my grandparents, my mom was making it sound like we were in a novel featuring Fabio and Lisa Compton. And of course she had to yell, because that's what she does on the phone. It's SOOOOOOOOOOO annoying. When I'm trying to have a normal person conversation with Liv on the other side of the room and we have to yell to hear each other, you know Mom needs to cool it just a bit with the volume. YOU MAY THINK THIS IS A JOKE. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
But the people were all really super nice which surprised me. I have to make sure I'm nicer to tourists when I go back home...
But here's the rub on Romania: when we landed, I went to pick up our rental car...but I made the appointment to pick it up for 9 am instead of pm. I'm an idiot. But they were super nice and got us a different car. Everything was great, we checked the car, installed the gps, set it to the hotel, and off we went. But it took 10 minutes for me to want to swerve into another car on purpose. DRIVING IN BUCHAREST WAS A FUCKING NIGHTMARE! Ok, I admit that I can't blame Bucharest. There was a festival going on around our hotel at the time, plus it was dark, plus plus it was my first time driving in Europe, plus plus plus we had NO idea where we were going because the gps was telling us the wrong place. BUT when I was driving around the city other times, it wasn't so bad. I just had a bad first experience (that's what she said).
After that happened, I was so anxious that I was physically sick for two days after. My mom says Carvelli's are famous for that (Carvelli=my mom's side of the family), but I've never EVER felt that bad just because of stress. I feel like I'll never be stressed again because no situation could ever equal what I went through here.
Anyway, things got better. I was too sick to go anywhere the first day we were here, but the second, we left super early to avoid traffic and went to Bran Castle. It was really pretty, but Liv was hoping to see the Count and when she didn't, she started crying. But the drive was BEAUTIFUL! We wanted to hit another castle that day, but we ended up running out of time after we got a flat tire. #YOLO.
Mamaia was next, and the beach was GREAT! Everyone on the beach is nice because everyone just wants to chill. Plus, driving to the castles and driving there made me feel better about driving in Romania, and then it wasn't a big deal after that.
We spent our last day in Bucharest again in a five star hotel that none of us knew what to do there because we weren't used to being surrounded by so many rich people at once. Two words: Free Minibar...Mini Bar? Three words. YOU GET THE POINT. Anyway, I took advantage of it, don't worry.
Now we're at the airport headed to Ireland. I have TONS planned, so it should be amazing! Talktoyousoonguysokbye.
